Death to Bullies

This is the spoken word that i will focus on within this project. It talks about struggles that celebrities and regular people face. It specifically talks about bullying, adultery, anxiety and depression.

DISCLAIMER:

In this section I will be talking about Suicide, Bullying, Adultery, Anxiety, Depression.

Clayton uses spoken word poems like “death to bullies” to evaluate anxiety and depression and to connect to his listeners.

He connects to his fan base by talking about what is going on in his life and what he experiences. This allows listeners of his to relate to his message that he is sending out into the world through his music. It also spreads some knowledge about the causes of these illnesses and how you can cope with them both positively and negatively.

Song Anaylsis from Death to bullies:

Important lines from this spoken word are listen below, I am going to give the quotation and then add my own interpretation of the line. My breakdown is NOT going to be 100% accurate and they are going to be very bias. Once again this is my interpretation of the song itself.

#1 “I went to therapy today and im kinda ashamed to admit it at the same time I had thoughts that should have had me admitted (0:00-0:08). I don’t wanna be here anymore ill admit it.(0:12) ” these quotes represents a down day that clayton was experiencing and how he found help for himself.

#2 ” Ive battled this depression since I was eleven”(6:27). “For three years I let people walk on my grave with high fives” (2:47). These two quotes state what illness clayton is struggling with and how it has effected his personal outlook and feelings towards life.

#3 “What about JD who used twitter to put a gun to a head (5:08) ” They got on his twitter and harassed him and made it look like he was immoral for kissing his girlfriend” (11:21). These two quotes represent the suicide of Braxton that was caused by bullying of JD and Sam from Pulpit and Pen.

What celebrities say about depression and anxiety:

“I often tell people the world can not define you when you know who you are”.

“On a day-to-day basis if I get anxiety, I just need to take a couple deep breaths because sometimes I feel like I can’t catch my breath.”

“I’m very available to depression. I can slip in and out of it quite easily,”
