Anxiety/Depression, what is that?

“Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness, and involve excessive fear or anxiety.” – DSM-5

“Major depressive disorder and is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act” – DSM – 5

I chose these definitions to inform teens and young adults what the most common problems people see among their peers. These are the top two mental illnesses that people struggle with. DSM is a psychological bible in other words. It is what all psychology professionals follow in order to diagnose someones symptoms and help them get what they need in order to get better. DSM has been updated five times which is why the quotations for the definitions show DSM-5.

Why is this graph here?

This graphic shows the top 7 problems teenagers see among their peers and how big of an issue they think that these problems are in their lives. As you can see, Anxiety and depression are the largest issues among teens who claim that 70% of teens claim that it is a major issue in the lives of their peers and themselves. The next issue is bullying at a whopping 55% which is a large factor as to why teens have anxiety and depression. It has been a large problem especially in public school systems.
